What We Found
The claim that actor Jackie Chan has died is false. The viral social media posts featuring a black-and-white image with the dates '1954-2026' are part of a recurring death hoax. Multiple credible news outlets and social media community notes have confirmed that the 72-year-old actor is alive and active.
Evidence
The claim originated from viral social media posts, particularly on platforms like X (formerly Twitter), which featured a black-and-white memorial-style image of Jackie Chan with the dates '1954-2026'. This image was shared alongside captions suggesting the actor had passed away. Extensive reporting from multiple independent news organizations, including the Hindustan Times, The Times of India, and the International Business Times, has confirmed that these reports are entirely false. There has been no official announcement from the actor's representatives, family, or official channels regarding his death. The viral posts have been debunked by community notes on social media platforms, which clarified that the actor is alive and continues to be active in his career. This incident is part of a long-standing pattern of celebrity death hoaxes targeting Jackie Chan.
What's Missing or Misleading
The viral posts were intentionally designed to mimic the aesthetic of an obituary to deceive users, despite having no basis in reality.
